Home Start is a social services agency dedicated to reducing child abuse and strengthening families in San Diego. We help more than 15,000 clients with services in housing, domestic violence, parenting, behavioral health, emergency assistance, financial counseling and more.

We are looking for volunteers to help on Saturdays at our Thrift Boutique to help process, maintain, and organize donations made to the Home Start Thrift Boutique. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Your role will be to greet customers, help sort donations and manage inventory, prep materials for sale and help process sales.

Volunteer tasks:

Meeting with merchandise donors by appointment and processing donated items

Quality reviewing and sorting items for later sale

Ensuring all items are clean and functional prior to being placed on the sale floor

Testing electronics, cleaning glassware, steaming clothing

Sorting and organizing inventory

Other duties as assigned

Immerse yourself in the community and support families in building a better future for themselves!

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Shifts: 10:00am-2:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm on Saturdays in January. Exact shift assignments will be mutually determined with Home Start.

Time Commitment: Volunteers can sign up for as many shifts as they are able to commit to on Saturday 1/8, 1/15, 1/22 and 1/29. Please do NOT sign up for shifts you may not be able to make.

Getting Started: Please email Manasi Watts, Volunteer Program Coordinator at mwatts@home-start.org to get an application and confirm your shifts. You MUST contact the Volunteer Program to be confirmed before you can volunteer.
