Want to make a difference?
Do you like children? Do you want to give those waiting to be seen by their respective doctors an emotional boost? Or perhaps you want to share your love of reading and/or arts and crafts with them? Or engage them with t herapeutic recreation games and other activities? Alternatively, maybe you prefer adults or are otherwise more than happy to work with people of all ages? Do you think you'd make a good escort for patients? Do you think you would be terrific at assisting nurses and/or other hospital staff? Or have an animal and want to provide pet therapy? Perhaps you think you would make a first-rate greeter, friendly visitor, or gift shop assistant. Then again, maybe you’d rather a more behind-the-scenes role in which you can help to do such things as label, file, enter data, answer phones, and the like?
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP partners with over 20 reputable general and specialty hospitals across the 5 boroughs and several for veterans. Whatever your skills, interests, and geographic preferences, we can help you to find one that is just the right fit for you!
Please note: given the COVID-19 pandemic, only about half of our hospital partners have begun onboarding new volunteers again. Of those that have, most only allow volunteers to perform tasks that are not patient-facing for health and safety reasons. Furthermore, while the facts on the ground remain fluid, volunteers may time and again be put on pause or have their duties further limited. With that in mind, some programs have returned to more or less full volunteer operations, so it does not hurt to check with RSVP staff.

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
