ORGANIZATION: Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City

Do you have the muscles to help provide over 800 families with nutritious food? Replace your workout by working with the JFS Food Pantry!

Volunteer Purpose

The Food Pantry Warehouse Helper will work with Food Pantry Staff to process, pick, sort, and distribute items to our two local food pantries. The Warehouse Helper will assist with picking up donations from local partner sites, and coordinate the movement of items. This position will become an integral part of pantry operations, so we are seeking someone who is passionate about serving the 800 families who rely on our food pantries EVERY MONTH!

Tasks

  • Work with pantry staff to retrieve items from our warehouse locations and community partner sites
  • Help to organize items for optimal storing and transportation to pantry sites
  • Lift items on/off pallets and into vehicles
  • Use a pallet jack to move product within the warehouse
  • Assist in setting up for volunteer activities as required
  • Interface with staff and guests/clients in a manner consistent with the agency’s mission

Competencies

  • Able to approach situations with calm
  • Ability to lift 25-50+ pounds on a consistent basis
  • Ability to team lift 100+ pounds
  • Ability to push/pull rolling carts of 1000+ pounds
  • Once trained, have the ability to take direction and proceed autonomously
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Easily approachable
  • Enjoys organizing to help identify/institute efficiencies
  • Ability to be trained in a fast-paced atmosphere

Training/Supervision

  • The volunteer will be trained and supervised by Food Pantry Staff and other JFS Staff as needed.
  • Volunteers will be briefed on daily tasks to be performed prior to each shift with an opportunity to provide feedback to maximize pantry operations.

Dress Code

  • Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing that they can move/process items in with ease.
