The World Games 2022 is a multi-sporting event held every four years by the International World Games Association , with support from the International Olympic Committee. Birmingham, Alabama, is the second state to host The Games since its first edition in Santa Clara, California, in 1981. The Birmingham Organizing Committee for The World Games 2022 expects more than 500,000 spectators to visit the city.

The Birmingham Organizing Committee will train volunteers to help serve at The Games sporting venues, including Barber Motorsports Park, Legion Field, Hoover Met, Protective Stadium, and Oak Mountain State Park.

"The Games will host 34 sports across 13 venues. The customer service details are almost endless, and our goal is to provide an outstanding experience and memorable moments for our guests and athletes. This event will take a small army of people to unite and serve a common purpose," said Kathy Boswell, Executive Vice President of Community and Volunteer Engagement for The Games. "This experience is our opportunity to celebrate the athlete's achievements and show the world the new Birmingham. As we come together and get to know one another as citizens and neighbors, the legacy of unity will carry the city forward."
