Help us create healthier communities in Santa Clara County by building a more resilient community food system. We have opportunities for everyone to have fun, learn something new, and be a part of our revolution of food justice and sustainability!

Do you enjoy gardening but don't have the space or time to grow your own vegetables? You can volunteer at the Homeland Nursery and:

  • Engage with the community
  • Obtain working experience and community service hours
  • Expand your organic gardening knowledge
  • Give back to the community and promote fair access to healthy and culturally preferred food in Santa Clara Valley.

Some examples of the activities we have available are:

  • Seed sowing / Vegetable transplanting: Help us with our production of vegetable seedlings for our community participants!
  • Building, planting, and maintaining our on-site gardens: We have demonstration gardens, seed saving gardens, and herb gardens that all need tending to. This is a great opportunity to get some hands on experience with many different types of gardening
  • Composting: Interested in learning how to compost? We need help every week to work and maintain our compost operations. Another great opportunity to learn about reducing food waste and lowering our carbon footprints.
  • Artwork/Community Space establishment: We want our Homeland Nursery to be a community space for all, so if you like to paint murals, signs, build benches, pathways, or even workshop structures, we would love the help!
  • Seed Saving: We’re constantly trying to close our sustainability loops at Valley Verde and seed saving is an important step of becoming economically and environmentally self-sufficient.
  • And many more!: If you have specific ways you’d like to contribute to Valley Verde, email your ideas to volunteer@valleyverde.org or come by our Homeland Nursery and see what we’re all about!

Mission Statement

Valley Verde increases self-sufficiency, health, and resilience, through a culturally informed community based food system to promote food justice.

We envision a Silicon Valley that has reconnected to its agricultural roots and resources, where there is food access and a healthy lifestyle for all. Valley Verde's work is guided by the principles of food sovereignty, where local communities form a just and participatory food system that honors the relationship between the people and the land, builds generational knowledge and skills, recognizes food as sacred and a right for all.
