SECOM would love to have your help in assisting neighbors through our Nutrition Access Point!

Our Nutrition Access Point is a USDA Healthy Food Pantry where local neighbors are able to access nutritious food each month to feed their families. The volunteers are the reason we are successful in serving our neighbors as they run the pantry through passing neighbors, restocking, re-packaging food, providing smiling faces. Being a volunteer with SECOM is a low-stress, easy volunteering job for anyone interested in helping lower income families in Grand Rapids. All of our neighbors (clients) live 100-200 percent below the poverty line and a large percentage are also Hispanic. The work SECOM does allows many families to continue to feed their families each month- it is a great organization for anyone looking to truly make an impact with those around them.

SECOM is currently in URGENT need of volunteers!

Our volunteers typically do one shift a week or one shift every other week. The majority of volunteers have a set shift they are scheduled for each week. As we understand schedules are always changing, some of our volunteers simply schedule any shifts the week prior if they have availability.

The hours volunteers can choose from are as follows:
Tues 8:30a-12:00p or 12:45p-3:05p
Wed 8:30a-12:00p or 12:45p-3:05p
Fri 8:30a-12:05p

If anyone is interested in learning more about SECOM or potentially volunteering please have them contact us at volunteers@secomministries.org.

Mission Statement

Our mission at SECOM Resource Center is to give help and hope to our neighbors by empowering families to achieve their full potential through healthy living, education and economic opportunities.

Description

A consistent Center for Resources, Empowerment, Nutrition, and Education.

Today, SECOM is a key resource center that gives help today and builds hope for tomorrow through connecting families with community resources, improving health, and providing educational and empowerment programs for low income children and families.

SECOM is located in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our location puts us in the middle of what is termed a 'Food Desert'. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, a "food desert" is a place where people have limited access to a variety of healthy and affordable food. Studies have shown that these locations have higher percentage of minority populations as well as increased unemployment rates. SECOM's location ensures nutritional food access and resources for families in an area that is insufficient to support them.
