ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

About L.A. Works: L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center that creates, manages, and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area. With more than 20 years of success, L.A. Works increases volunteer participation in the community; builds capacity at nonprofit organizations; educates and encourages people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the community.

Position Overview: Want to make a difference in the lives of isolated Angelenos? Do you like developing systems as well as relationships? Join an evidence based program that directly combats isolation in the vulnerable population of older adults. We're looking for a talented and personable lead volunteer associate that can guide the day-to-day activities of our successful Telesocial Program.

About the TeleSocial Program: The TeleSocial Program at L.A. Works is designed to combat isolation for the vulnerable population of seniors in Los Angeles. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many seniors across California to lose access to senior centers, churches, and clubs that would be their primary source of socialization. We've paired up a number of volunteers with a "call buddy" to call at least once a week and chat about current events, the weather, or anything else the recipient wants to talk about. The TeleSocial Program matches volunteer callers with recipients referred to us through partner agencies (or self-referred). Once matched, L.A. Works provides ongoing support to the volunteers/recipients by addressing any technical issues that arise as well as social service needs reported by the volunteers.

In this role, you will conduct general caller/recipient troubleshooting and reporting, and maintain relationships with our volunteers. The position requires someone who is detail oriented, skilled in relationship building, tech-savvy, self-motivated, and able to self-manage.

As part of our team, you will gain exposure to the inner workings of the nonprofit sector and develop valuable professional skills that will help you develop strong relationships, expand meaningful programming, and ultimately foster change in the community.

TeleSocial Program Duties:

Effectively communicate with volunteers, staff and clients

Keep accurate, time-sensitive documentation

Attend meetings to discuss program changes and updates

Develop and maintain protocols for tracking

Run appropriate reports upon request

Work with other staff and Volunteer Associates to support various elements of TeleSocial program.

Key Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (this is an ideal fit for candidates with a focus/background in social work, aging studies, nonprofit management, or psychology)

Knowledge of the nonprofit volunteering sector; understanding of volunteer management and engagement practices (not a requirement)

Ability to delivering results while juggling competing priorities

Strong customer service skills with professional demeanor in person, in writing, and on the phone

Proactive, self-directed personality with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

Excellent relationship-building skills

Great organizational skills and detail-oriented nature

Interest in developing processes and procedures for efficiency and sustainability

Passion for community service

Enthusiastic and eager to learn

Additional responsibilities and requirements:

Perform any and all other duties assigned by the supervisor

Meet baseline responsibilities and requirements within a set schedule

Experience with Salesforce, a plus

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps and Zoom

Have a computer and stable internet connection

Language Requirement: Must be bilingual in Spanish & English, other languages welcomed

Location: Remote

Compensation: Unpaid. We can provide school, practicum, or internship credit. Volunteer Associates will benefit from this great learning experience, enhance their resumes, and build their personal and professional skills as they make a difference in the LA nonprofit community. We're here to help you! If there's any way we can help you grow in a professional capacity, please let us know.
