ORGANIZATION: Citizen Schools

CS Mentor

Volunteers mentor middle school students with us in the classroom!

Over 4-6 weeks, volunteers work with students to complete a hands-on experiential learning project that brings learning to life.

Volunteers will:

  • Work with small groups of students to create a polished group project.
  • Provide insight into your career by connecting project skills to learnings from your career.
  • Support students' presentation skills, critical thinking, collaborative problem solving, and provide feedback on student’s work.
  • Volunteers work closely with Citizen Schools staff and teachers to mentor students along this hands-on learning journey.

Volunteers commit to attending a virtual training session and 4-6 hour-long classroom sessions. Sessions are scheduled on weekdays between 9-4:30 PM ET.

At Citizen Schools, we believe that equity begins with opportunity. To close the opportunity gap in education, we need systems change, which requires work at multiple levels. We bring students hands-on learning projects with career mentors after school, coach and train teachers to provide these opportunities during school, and share capacity, resources & best practices with other communities.
