Do you want to make a difference in our Charlotte Community?

Our Fill My Cup! Adult Literacy and Adult Basic Education Services program teaches reading, writing, and math to adults who read at or below a basic skills level. Our Adult Literacy program currently enrolls students who work virtually, one-to-one and small groups with volunteer tutors. All tutors participate in a new volunteer orientation and training in research-based reading instruction and online and virtual resources.

Although English is their native language, Adult Literacy students are non-readers who struggle with recognizing individual written words and comprehending a sentence or longer passage. They comprise a diverse group in terms of educational background, socio-economic status, personal goals, and learning styles. Many are challenged by learning deficits. They come to us because they want to improve their job prospects, help their children in school, enroll in a GED program, or just feel better about themselves and their ability to cope in today’s world.
