IGNITE Worldwide offers virtual workshops, field trips, and panels and we need your help! The heart of IGNITE’s curriculum are the panel discussions featuring professional women in STEM careers: sharing their career journey with a group of girls.

Volunteer Role Descriptions:

Blogger: help capture the inspiration during an IGNITE Event by writing a brief summary using IGNITE Blogger Guidelines.

Tech Host: manage the behind-the-scenes tech needs during the event. Experience with Zoom is preferred. A short training session will be required for this role.

Translator: translate via Zoom to help all students hear panelist's stories.

Facilitator: Using a script, you will welcome young women to the virtual event and moderate the panel and Q&A discussion. A short training session will be required for this role.

Panelist: speak for 3 minutes about your experiences as a STEM professional and the path they took to get where they currently are. Girls get a chance to ask the panelists questions, which help break stereotypes and allows the women and girls to directly connect. A short training session will be required for this role.

Mission Statement

IGNITE™ inspires girls to become the future technology leaders and innovators of our world. We work directly with teachers to provide engaging events like field trips to local companies, panels with professional women in STEM, and hands-on workshops. We serve all girls and non-binary students, with a focus on students from undeserved communities, students of color, and those who may have not yet considered a future in STEM.

Description

Started in 1999, IGNITE (Inspiring Girls Now In Technology Evolution) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that introduces school girls from grades 6-12 to technology careers via panel discussions, job shadowing, mentoring and field trips throughout the school year to visit the work places of professional women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers.

IGNITE has educated and empowered over 60,000 young women in middle school and high school grades to pursue education and careers in STEM. In the Seattle School District alone, female participation in technology classes soared from under 5% to over 50% after implementing the IGNITE program. The IGNITE program is also donated to countries all over the world, where local educators lead the program and empower girls in their communities.
