This internship can be done remotely, but we will also have a office if you want to be in-person at times.

  • At The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), we're passionate about our mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS volunteers help carry out this mission in so many ways: supporting patients, family members, healthcare professionals, and our community, driving policy advocacy, participating in our campaigns, and helping LLS build much needed capacity.
  • By agreeing to this role I am agreeing to manage my volunteer experience with LLS using Volunteers in Action (VIA). This includes reporting hours of service, receiving email and other communications through VIA, accessing tools and resources and using other features relevant to my volunteer role.

Position Tasks The Outreach Intern completes a project related to connecting LLS with external constituents or stakeholders. All projects are completed with support and assistance of the intern’s volunteer manager. Suggested projects include the following:
  • Promote LLS at a local event. The intern becomes knowledgeable about LLS, its offerings, and mission. The intern creates and/or collects all necessary documents for the event. The intern serves as a point of contact with the event manager. The intern attends the event and promotes LLS programs and services to the public.
  • Donor Research. The intern researches and compiles a list of potential donors. The intern helps conduct donor research and prepares a list of donors and their bios. The intern assists with donor contacts.
  • Donor Event. The intern contacts potential donors. The intern plans a donor event, including booking a speaker and location. The intern executes the donor event.
  • Patient Outreach. The intern reaches out to past first connection matches (completed or not fulfilled) and gathers feedback from both requestor and volunteer. The intern goes through completed surveys and takes notes of similarities and differences. The intern reports on feedback and creates a plan to increase utilization of First Connection program.
The volunteer manager for this position will provide details regarding the specific project this intern will complete. Desired Skills Volunteer should possess the following skills/qualifications:
  • Enrolled in an accredited university/college program for which the student is required to complete and internship
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (exceptions will be considered with justification)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self Directed
  • Willingness and ability to attend events outside standard work hours (9-5 M-F) as appropriate for the project.

  • LLS will provide the volunteer with an orientation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as training in LLS specific software needed to complete the project.
