PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
As Nepal has been working to recover from the long-run impacts of past earthquakes, it was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The real impacts of COVID-19 started to be observed in Nepal from March 2020, after the Nepal government implemented the first nationwide lockdown. During the pandemic, the local health facilities were overwhelmed and schools were used as impromptu quarantine centers. The disaster highlighted the need for improved medical facilities and the need to develop local health capacity.
In partnership with Relief Nepal, this program will build new, disaster-resilient, facilities for the Dudhauli Health Post located in the Sindhuli District. In total there will be 8 new rooms and 1 new toilet block, enabling the health post to provide additional service for up to 40,000 people. We will conduct training on Disaster Risk Reduction and Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for the health post and local community.
VOLUNTEER DATES:
Group 1: February 9 - March 11
Group 2: March 16 - April 15
Group 3: April 20 - May 20
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18+
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Must commit to 30 days
- Must receive a background check before arrival
