Activities Assistant (16+)

Main Duties

  1. Help residents enjoy activities such as music, art, games, chair volleyball, and ice cream socials.
  2. Tasks include moving tables and chairs for different activities, setting up supplies and cleaning up after activities, gathering residents for activities, taking residents back to the nurse’s stations after activities.
  3. Depending on the activity, help residents by finding the page in songbook, assist using a paintbrush, toss a balloon to residents, or help residents mark a Bingo card, etc.

Desired Traits and Qualities

Friendly smile, patience, kindness, compassion, communication, ability to follow directions and ask questions for clarification if necessary.

NOTE: High school students 16 years old and older are considered on a very limited basis due to minors needing supervision by staff or their parent/guardian and their limited availability during the school year. Shifts are 10:30 am to noon or 2:30 to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

Carolina Meadows is a nonprofit Continuing Care Retirement Community. We offer a continuum of services to our older adult residents who live in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Nursing Care or Memory Care.

YOU can brighten an older adult’s day and gain real-world experience that will broaden your perspective of what you and they can do to serve each other! Connect with a population of folks who have so much to teach us through their lived experience. If you like learn about different people and cultures, play games or music, listen to and tell stories or share your hobbies or technical expertise, we are the place for you. There’s no limit to the benefits social connectedness and intergenerational relationships can have on you and our residents, especially with the continuing social isolation impacts of COVID-19.

  • Must be at least 16
  • Orientation or Training
  • one to two hours a week for at least six months
  • Volunteer application, proof of a negative TB test in the last 12 months, proof of flu shot during flu season (usually October through May), attend a volunteer orientation, background check required for adults.
