The JCC Kosher Food Pantry in Staten Island currently serves over 2,200 individuals within the local area per year and is currently looking for independent, hardworking, and respectful volunteers to assist in providing access to supplemental meal options for individuals and families with food insecurities within a supportive and confidential environment. Through an orientation and on the job trainings, volunteers will learn how to assist clients with creating future appointments via the Plentiful app, how to "pack a bag" with various food items based on the recommendations of USDA’s MyPlate guide to a balanced meal, stocking shelves, and ensuring all perishable and non-perishable foods are fresh and not expired. All volunteers are required to treat all food pantry clients with respect and sensitivity as they are a vulnerable population. No special skills are required, however, a calm and pleasant demeanor is a plus when working with all of our families and individuals. Volunteering with the JCC Kosher Food Pantry, although rewarding, can be a physically strenuous role and could require volunteers to stand for an extended period of time, lift and carry up to 25 lbs, and move throughout the pantry as needed. With the JCC Kosher Food Pantry working with so many families on a weekly basis, any time allocated by our volunteers makes a significant impact when it comes to improving the health and nutrition status of people in need of immediate food assistance. Accepting flexible schedules, our food pantry will attempt to work with each volunteer’s availability to find a balance of time that works for volunteers and acts within the hours of operation of the JCC. The JCC Kosher Food Pantry’s hours of operation are currently all weekdays from 10am - 6pm.
