ORGANIZATION: Foundation For Essential Needs

Foundation for Essential Needs (FFEN) is focused on reshaping the Minnesota hunger relief sector - to ensure all food shelf shoppers trust it to predictably offer healthy food options and a dignified experience. FFEN plays a unique role in the system, providing funding paired with no-cost consulting to food shelves so that they can serve their community more effectively and efficiently. FFEN’s relational approach utilizes skilled volunteers to support service and operational changes at both the local and system level. In the last year, FFEN has piloted educational offerings to integrate more formalized professional development offerings for food shelf leaders.

FFEN continues to experience significant growth over the last three year with increased programming to food shelves, increased paid staff and an expanded organizational budget. Additionally, the Board of Directors just approved the first formal Strategic Plan for the organization through 2024. As the organization moves forward into this next chapter, we are seeking individuals to join our Board of Directors to provide leadership, fresh perspective and energy for the course ahead. Be a part of positively impacting food access in Minnesota while ensuring a strong and sustainable FFEN for the future!

Board members are responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to the organization as well as contributing to resource and relationship development for FFEN. FFEN’s Board currently is made up of an engaged group of entrepreneurs and innovators with an array of personal and professional experiences. To complement these existing members, FFEN is particularly interested in candidates with these qualities:

  • Presence in and/or connections to greater Minnesota communities
  • Ability to see and develop creative partnerships that solve system challenges
  • Willingness to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion efforts within the organization
  • Commitment to connect FFEN’s mission and work with your personal and professional network
  • Specific experience in HR, Legal, Marketing, and Technology Systems highly desired.
