The Arroyo Seco Foundation, which operates Hahamongna Native Plant Nursery in Pasadena, seeks an individual who is skilled in or eager to learn about nursery management, including native plant identification and propagation, nursery operations, and customer service. The nursery grows native plants from the Arroyo Seco for habitat restoration programs and for water conserving gardens at homes, businesses and public places. The nursery sells to public agencies and to the general public.

This is an ideal opportunity for an environmentally-oriented individual to work to protect and preserve the environment and to develop important stewardship skills. The position includes managing significant parts o the nursery operation and may lead to employment. Hahamongna Nursery relies on community-oriented volunteers for much of its work. We are looking for energetic individuals to work as part of a team to grow a wide variety of native plants and educate the general public about the importance of native plants and habitat for wildlife and for a resilient future.

The Arroyo Seco Foundation is an action-oriented environmental group that works for nature protection and stream restoration. As part of the LA River restoration program, ASF is to bring native fish back to the Arroyo Seco and to promote conservation and environmental stewardship. Hahamongna Nursery is a key educational tool and community service.

Please provide a statement of interest and qualifications, including any relevant background, studies or activities.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Arroyo Seco Alliance is to preserve and enhance the Arroyo Seco from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Los Angeles River, reforest our region, and promote environmental and cultural awareness of one of Southern California's greatest natural resources.

Description

The Arroyo Seco Alliance (ASA) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the Arroyo Seco watershed. ASA advocates an integrated, harmonious approach to watershed and flood management, water conservation, habitat enhancement as well as the expansion of recreational opportunities. Through action projects, recreation, and environmental awareness activities, ASA strives to involve the residents and organizations in our region in this tremendous enterprise. ASA works to reforest the Arroyo Seco, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the neighboring urban landscape with native shrubs and trees.

The activities of the Arroyo Seco Alliance enable local residents and businesses to become directly involved in the restoration of the Arroyo Seco and in the recreational and environmental opportunities available

Major Projects include:

  • Arroyo Seco Watershed Restoration -- This comprehensive approach to mountain and urban watershed management is a partnership of ASA and the many organizations of the Council of Arroyo Seco Organizations (CASO).
  • Tours and Educational Events -- ASA offers a variety of types of tours of the Arroyo Seco and a series of educational programs about the habitat, culture and history of the Arroyo Seco.
  • Native Plant Transformation - ASA promotes, grows, and cares for native trees and plants.
