ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Provide services for the Shop similar to any retail shop, including good customer service
  2. Use of cash register, assists patrons in finding materials, keeps Shop in orderly appearance
  3. Opens & closes the shop using detailed procedures during their shift

Basic volunteer qualifications involved in this assignment: Ability to learn simple cash register procedures, good communication skills. Must pass a background check due to handling money.

Who will be served by this assignment: Akron Summit County Public Library & its patrons.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? Friends of the Main Library Shop provides excellent low-cost reusable books & other educational materials to the public while profits support the Akron Summit County Public Library.

What special skills will the volunteer need? Ability to use a cash register. Due to the current size & spacing in the Shop, it is not wheelchair accessible.

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
