ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Works with a team of sorters trained to identify books, DVDs, CDs, etc. as to placement
  2. Helps transfer books from inventory area to the Library Shop on the 2nd floor of the library via elevators
  3. Assists with special Library & Friends sales & events as needed
Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:
Medium high school education, good reading ability, knowledge of books & literature helpful

Who will be solved by this assignment? The Friends of the Main Library, Akron Summit County Public Library (an all-volunteer organization & eventually all Main Library patrons)

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? Proceeds of the Shop are used to support programs & services of the Akron Summit County Public Library

What specific skills will the volunteer need? Willingness to work in a basement environment; ability to lift a minimum of 10lbs; ability to walk or stand in a crowded environment

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
