As a Great Oaks (GO) AmeriCorps Fellow, you will play an integral role in the school community by providing small groups of students individualized instruction, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities each day in a full-time AmeriCorps service position. You will serve groups of elementary, middle or high school students Monday-Friday and some weekends- an average service day lasting 9 hours.

You will gain valuable professional and personal experience and acquire skills in civic-engagement, teamwork and leadership during the service term. You could potentially serve in any one of our partner schools from Maryland to Connecticut- all of which share our mission and values. The ideal candidate for the GO AmeriCorps Fellowship is a college graduate who is team-oriented, passionate about service and who believes that all young people deserve a high-quality education.

Fellows will receive a living allowance, housing at select locations, the Segal Education award, and professional development and training.

QUALIFICATIONS

You are qualified to apply if you meet the following requirements:

  • Earned a Bachelor’s degree by August 1, 2022
  • Citizenship or legal Permanent Residency status in the United States (AmeriCorps requirement)
  • Served no more than three previous AmeriCorps service terms (AmeriCorps National requirement)

GENERAL INFORMATION

If selected for the role, you will start in August 2022 and serve through June 2023. GO AmeriCorps Fellow positions are available in schools from Maryland to Connecticut. This will be an in-person service opportunity pending any new state and CDC guidelines.

  • 07:30 AM to 04:45 PM
    This fellowship would follow the academic calendar of Great Oaks & Partner schools. All schools are expected to be in-person.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Great Oaks Foundation is to launch and support a network of charter schools that prepare students for college success through a rigorous tutorial program. The Great Oaks Foundation has replicated the Great Oaks Fellowship model in Newark, NJ, New York, NY, Bridgeport, CT, Wilmington, DE and Baltimore, MD. A select group of Great Oaks Fellows are enrolled in the Teaching Residency program. We are seeking team-oriented, student-centered, service-minded individuals who share the belief that all students deserve a high-quality education.

Description

Great Oaks Fellows are integral members of the Great Oaks community. Over the course of one school year (August through June), Great Oaks Fellows collaborate with diverse stakeholders to instruct and mentor students, and help develop a community where those students thrive.

To ensure that Fellows meet the necessary living expenses incurred while participating in the Great Oaks Fellowship program, members are provided a modest living stipend, housing (utilities and furniture included) and access to food and health benefits. Members also receive ongoing professional development throughout the year. Fellows will be eligible for an AmeriCorps Segal Education Award upon successful completion of the service term in good standing with the service site (completing 1,700 hours of service for Full-time members and the school year in its entirety). Most importantly, Great Oaks Fellows gain valuable professional and personal experience and acquire skills in civic-engagement, teamwork and leadership during a year of service.

The ideal candidate for the Great Oaks Fellowship is a recent college graduate who is passionate about service and working with youth. Great Oaks Fellows serve in Newark, NJ, New York, NY, Bridgeport, CT, Wilmington, DE and Baltimore, MD.
