Do you need certified volunteer hours for college applications? Would you like to earn your Presidential Volunteer Service Award? Are you passionate about the arts?

Apricus Arts Inc. is looking for passionate and dedicated teenagers to apply to be Arts Mentors!

Apricus Arts Inc. is a 501(c)3 pending nonprofit organization entirely run by high school students. We are dedicated to providing free, high-quality artistic enrichment opportunities to youth aged 5-18 in the United States of America.

If you are between the ages of 13 and 18, live in California, and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in your art form, you are eligible to apply to be an arts mentor for Apricus Arts!

The youth we work with are interested in learning about a wide array of art forms, so whatever your specialty is (i.e. singing, piano, creative writing, painting) you are encouraged to apply!

Our mentors have control over their own schedules, and receive certified community service hours for their work! After your application, you will be scheduled for a brief interview. Before we match you with a student, you will complete our instructor training program, which will teach you how to format lessons, interact with students, how to manage student stress/mental health issues, and more. You will, of course, receive community service hours for your time spent completing the course.

What does an Arts Mentor do?

  • Plan and provide one-on-one instruction to elementary and middle school students over Zoom
  • Share your love and knowledge of a specific art form
  • Perform at community events at senior centers, shelters, etc.

Mission Statement

Apricus Arts Inc. is a nonprofit organization run by high school students. We provide free, high-quality artistic enrichment opportunities to youth aged 5-18 in the United States of America. These include free, private lessons over Zoom, group workshops, and more!

Description

Apricus

[aˈpriː.kus] adjective: exposed to the sun, warmed by sunshine, sunny; [in poetry] delighting in sunshine and its warmth

It can be incredibly expensive and difficult to pursue an artistic education. Music instructors typically charge between $15-150/hr for lessons, and school music programs can cost up to hundreds of dollars in fees per student annually. Art supplies such as paints can cost hundreds of dollars, and quality visual arts education is scarce in the public school system.

Artistic education provides a safe environment for children to develop helpful skills, such as perseverance, a strong work ethic, cooperation, and much more.

Statistically, schools offering music programs have higher graduation and attendance rates when compared to schools that don’t offer music programs. Furthermore, all forms of artistic education have been proven to improve overall cognitive function.

Apricus Arts was created because we felt it was wrong that creativity was accompanied by such a heavy price tag. Support our mission by becoming a mentor, student, or officer!
