ORGANIZATION: WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF LAS VEGAS

Board members work collaboratively to direct and support an established and respected organization. Board members are part of a team made up of community members and professionals who come together to make policies and provide strategic direction and oversight. Requirements for this position include:

  • Passion and interest in global affairs
  • A strong record of leadership experience, particularly in the non-profit sector
  • Attendance at monthly board meetings
  • 5-10 hours per month time commitment outside of board meetings
  • Participation in networking, fundraising, and other outreach activities
  • Participation in the International Visitor's Program (IVLP) in various capacities, including acting as a representative of the organization and the Las Vegas community, picking up visitors at the airport, accompanying visitors to program related activities and excursions, and hosting visitors for meals and other activities
  • Must sign up to serve on at least one committee. Board Members must Stays informed about committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
  • Provide management advice and feedback about board operations
  • Ensure the legal and ethical integrity and accountability of the organization

Term: One year

Dues: Board members are expected to pay annual dues.

The World Affairs Council of Las Vegas is a non-profit (501c3) non-partisan member organization of the World Affairs Councils of America and Global Ties US. We are one of over 100 grassroots organizations across 40 states and the District of Columbia dedicated to engaging and educating Americans on international affairs and foreign policy and promoting foreign exchanges.

The World Affairs Council of Las Vegas is committed to providing diverse opportunities for the community to become involved in activities that promote international awareness in the Las Vegas community. The board is interested in hearing from anyone that wishes to have greater involvement in the WACLV. We are an all volunteer organization and invite you to get involved.​ There are a number of exciting ways to get involved. Join our Advisory Board, Be a part of our International Visitors Committee, become a intern or volunteer or host a professional international exchange participant as a Home Stay Host.
