Behind the Book will be celebrating its amazing program with Nikole Hannah-Jones and The 1619 Project's Born on the Water next week . We'll be handing out a beautiful, published anthology of the students' art and writing.

We REALLY need an amazing photographer to capture this event, happening 8:30-11:30AM on June 8th. If you can only cover a portion of the event, we may still be able to work something out. We'll feature you on our social!

Mission Statement
Behind the Book is a non-profit literacy organization that inspires New York City public school students to love reading. Through our rich, innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula and meet Common Core Learning Standards, accomplished authors visit high-needs pre-K-12 classrooms, where they teach a genre of writing and guide students in creating their own writing projects based on the theme of the author's book. BtB programs have a successful record of building comprehension skills and motivating engaged readers at schools around the city.

Behind the Book is a non-profit literacy organization that brings authors into high-needs New York City public schools to enhance the literacy skills of pre-K-12 students. Our innovative programs are part of the class curricula and and meet Common Core Learning Standards.
