Hello! We are the Adult Learners Program at Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC).

We are seeking volunteers who can help adult learners with reading, writing, English, and/or math skills for 90 minutes once a week. The adult learners who serve are generally below the 9th grade level equivalent and come with a range of goals.

You will tutor him/her at our main office in Ravenswood or at a local library convenient to the learner.

Every learner and tutor who meets in-person at JARC is required to be COVID vaccinated or receive a weekly PCR COVID test. We also ask everyone to have their temperature checked, fill out a COVID screening and wear a mask every time that they come onsite. The computer lab is disinfected on a daily basis.

Most tutoring takes place Mondays-Thursdays from 10am- 5pm, as well as Tuesday evenings. Tutoring at local libraries also take place in the evenings and on weekends.

All JARC ALPS volunteers are provided with 12 hours of training before they begin with a learner and with curriculum to use with their learner.

Perks of volunteering include opportunities for free professional development through Literacy Works, Chicago Citywide Literacy Coalition and other organizations.

To get started you attend an info session with the Director of the Adult Learners Program, Liz Czarnecki.

If this opportunity sounds like a good match for you or if you would like more info feel free to call/text me at (224) 999-1302 or email me at lizc@jane-addams.org.

Thanks!
