Help us Celebrate Dr. King's Day of Community Service in the Emporia area!

RSVP Volunteers will put donation boxes in area businesses to collect peanut butter, jelly and bread to be donated to our local food pantries.

Lt Mylie of the Emporia Salvation Army states they can always use donations of these popular items and she asked specifically that we include bread in our publicity for this event. Recently, the supply chain for bread donations was interrupted and the problem has yet to be resolved. The local food pantries have been very low on bread for several weeks now.

Donations may be collected and dropped off in any of the businesses with a donation box which will be local grocery stores and Bluestem among others. Or call the Friendship Center at 340-8001 during regular business hours and we will make arrangements to pick up your donation. Donations may also be dropped off at the Friendship Center. If you call first, we can send someone to the parking lot so you won't need to come into the building.

Collection boxes will be at the following locations throughout the month of January:

Bluestem Farm and Ranch
Waters Hardware
Goody's Cash Savers
CountryMart
Emporia Mainstreet
Dillons
FlintHIlls Mall
Olpe Senior Center
North Lyon County Senior Center
Hartford Senior Center

Please contact your network of friends and ask them to donate!

MLK Day is a day off work for many of us. Let's show gratitude for the gifts of our life by making MLK Day a day of service to those with less.

Mission Statement

Flint Hills RSVP is a program of Americorps Seniors that recruits and engages persons 55 and older in volunteer service to meet critical community needs.

Description

Flint Hills Americorps Seniors RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches the personal interests and skills of older community members with opportunities to serve. Leading with experience. Your community needs you.

RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve, from a few hours to more than 40 hours a week. Volunteers report better health and higher quality of life by staying engaged in their community and avoiding becoming the isolation and loneliness reported by many seniors.

While many existing opportunities are available presently, we are always identifying community needs and responding with new opportunities.

We consider our volunteers to be a valuable component in the community well being, as well as having an experienced opinion on the direction of our future growth.
