Announcement and Volunteer Recruitment

Nurture Hope’s program Shower Power Plus (SPP) brings showers to those in our community without access to hygiene services. We have funding from support of the Thurston County Health & Social Services Dept. We have a contract with the City of Olympia to provide some funding this start hygiene services.

We are recruiting drivers and shower operation volunteers from the community to help manage and facilitate our service.

You may be wondering if it is safe to volunteer. We value the health and safety of ALL our volunteers, ourselves included. The reason we can proceed with confidence is due to Briotech, one of our sponsors. Brio is a safe, stable skin and surface disinfectant that is HOCL. for more information: www.briotechusa.com

Everyone gets a spray bottle, with endless refills. We have also developed a safety protocol for all volunteers and guests to assure we are all staying safe.

There are two areas we are recruiting for:

Driver with Mechanical knowledge - setting up the equipment which breaks down into 3 sections:

  1. Grey water setup
  2. Fresh water setup
  3. General setup ie canopies, supply tubs, tables, and signs

Shower Operations - Working with guests:

  1. Setup Assistants
  2. Intake & Scheduling
  3. Hygiene supplies
  4. Cleaning and Disinfecting shower stalls
  5. Teardown Assistants

If you are interested in working to make this service available, please complete a Volunteer Application at nurture-hope.org/volunteer . After you send in your application, someone will contact you within 24-48 hours.

Join us for Thursday showers. The hours are 9am-1pm Please call 360.890.3133 for more information, or email to info@nurturehope.org

We encourage you to cross train in any of the areas above that you may be interested in participating during our shower offerings weekly.

About Nurture Hope

Location:

Mission Statement

By improving human dignity, we strive to nurture mental health, physical well-being, and environmental stewardship. We thank you in advance for your service! Shower Power Plus Program Goal: Enhance the quality of life in our unhoused Thurston County neighbors by providing showers, clean clothing, supplies, and coordinating with community partners to provide other resources in an atmosphere of radical hospitality.

Description

Nurture Hope (NH) serves Thurston County residents with dignity through two unique active programs, Build A Bus Home, and Shower Power Plus. Both programs serve our unhoused Thurston County neighbors.

Nurture Hope’s programs provide affordable housing options through BABH, while SPP serves unhoused guests who do not have regular access to running water with mobile showers. Our dedicated team of volunteers offer a piece of normalcy and a small step toward the goal of independent and self-sufficient living. Together, we strive to meet the most basic human needs with radical hospitality!

Shower Power Plus also works closely with Community Partners creating an inviting atmosphere for guests. This "Village of Care" approach has attracted partners who provide, food, clothing, medical, employment information, and a range of related supplies and services.

As we grow and evolve our operations, it is crucial that we continue to promote a favorable and lasting impression in the minds of everyone with whom we interact, including guests, donors, media, volunteers, and the general community.
