ORGANIZATION: RESTORING JUSTICE

Image_202209131243

Adelphoi volunteers have the opportunity to engage in our criminal justice system and foster Christ’s love to our clients through one-on-one support. Through the Adelphoi Program, lay individuals are matched with Restoring Justice clients for an equal, emotionally supportive relationship throughout the legal process. This is not a mentorship. Adelphoi volunteers are asked to be the supportive role of a real brother or sister and may visit, pray with, and be present for events of their new client.

"Adelphoi" is Greek for brother or sister, and volunteers enact this familial loving attitude by merely being proximate with our clients - through visits and presence throughout the legal process and potentially beyond. Our vision is a redeemed criminal justice system that respects and upholds every human's dignity and constitutional rights. The Adelphoi Volunteer is at the heart of that mission.

Mission Statement

Ending mass incarceration one client and heart at a time.

Description

Founded in 2016, Restoring Justice is a nonprofit organization in Houston, Texas, that provides holistic and client-centered representation to marginalized members of our community facing criminal charges. This includes the provision of expert criminal defense legal representation, social work services, trauma-informed counseling, spiritual support, volunteer connections, and more.

Our mission is to end mass incarceration, one client and heart at a time. We take cases of those unsatisfied with their legal representation and/or are represented by appointed counsel who exceeds recommended caseload guidelines and offer them holistic representation, free-of-charge.

As a grassroots, human-centered organization, we also take community engagement seriously and routinely participate in community endeavors and innovative collaborations that bolster the criminal justice reform movement. We strive to pursue removing racial disparities and reforming the indigent defense system.
