About the race:
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals of Jacksonville invites you to join thousands of runners who will help make miracles possible for local kids Dec. 4 at the Annual Festival of Lights 5K & Family Fun Run. Luminaries will light up the streets of beautiful San Marco as runners take off during this holiday-themed race. Participants can also enjoy an evening of Holiday Magic Festivities. Proceeds from this race will help provide our local CMN Hospitals - UF Health Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, with much-needed funding for the purchase of life-saving medical equipment, Child Life supplies and educational resources.

Volunteer Opportunities:
There are a number of volunteer needs for this event. Below is a description of the teams and shift duties. Time commitment will vary based on which team you sign up for.

Day of Volunteer Teams: (Saturday, Dec. 4)

Loading Team

  • Meet CMN Hospitals staff at the CMNH office to help load event supplies into the truck to be transported to event site.
  • Assist with unloading event supplies at event site in San Marco Square
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Luminary Prep Team

  • Prepare luminaries - place lights & weights into bags, load into vehicles
  • Distribute luminaries - teams of 5 volunteers to place on course
  • Ensure there are no gaps along the route

Parking Lot Attendants

  • Direct vehicles in the parking lot. Must be 18 years or older.

Registration Team

  • Help 1st Place Sports with check in day-of event
  • Hand out race packet with runner number, t-shirt, timing chip & jingle bells

Sanitizer Tent

  • Setup and tear down sanitizer tent
  • Distribute masks and hand sanitizer to visitors

Holiday Magic Team

  • Set-up & tear down Kid Zone stations
  • Ensure social distancing is being practiced by those waiting in line and masks are being worn

Refreshment Team

  • Set-up and manage on-route water table
  • Distribute water to runners making sure just enough cups are ready
  • Following the race, clean up trash around area & breakdown tables

Finish Line Team

  • Hand out medals to each child who runs in the 1-mile fun run and each person who completes the 5K
  • Prepare water station at the finish line and distribute bottles to runners
  • Following the race, clean up trash around area and break down tables

Clean-up Team

  • Assist with luminary pick-up along the route and disassemble luminaries
  • Empty trash bins throughout the San Marco Square and take to dumpster
  • Break down tables/chairs/banners, etc.

Post Event Volunteer Teams: (Sunday, Dec. 5)

Unloading Team

  • Meet CMN Hospitals staff at the CMNH office to help unload event supplies from the truck.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Description

A founding principle of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is that all funds raised stay local. Therefore, everything raised in the Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia area is used to purchase medical equipment, child life activities and educational resources for the pediatric programs of UF Health Jacksonville and Wolfson Children's Hospital.
