The West End Museum is looking for an exhibit writer to create succinct text descriptions for wall labels. The writer will primarily work with the Lead Curator. The writer will receive a research outline and discuss and collaborate on upcoming exhibits.
Occasional in-person meetings with the Lead Curator at the museum are required, and will be scheduled with the Lead Curator. Additional research and writing can be done remotely. The writer should also attend a biweekly virtual meetings with the Executive Director, Lead Curator, and Exhibit Committee (on Thursdays).
Requirements:
-Reliable with deadlines
-Ability to attend a biweekly meeting (1-2 hours long)
-An interest in historical research
-The ability to convert outlines into exhibit text
-The ability to write descriptions for material culture
-An understanding of how to write for a broad target audience

The Museum provides a space for past and present residents and the community; educates the public in history and urbanization; and preserves its material history and culture. The Museum seeks to challenge citizens to take an active role in shaping their communities.

About the West End Museum:
We are a Boston neighborhood museum seeking volunteers interested in the history and culture of the City of Boston, its immigrant era, and urban renewal. The Museum is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of the history and culture of the West End of Boston.
You can expect to find a casual workplace of friendly Volunteers and Staff who are welcoming and eager to engage with the public. A previous knowledge of the neighborhood is not required, but an appreciation of its historical significance is helpful.
The Museum is conveniently located close to the MBTA Science Park/West End Station and North Station. Bowdoin Station is about a 10-minute walk.
