The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Volunteer work parties in the Baraboo Hills help maintain and protect the Nature Conservancy preserves in this unique landscape of quartzite bluffs and large contiguous forest blocks. Contact Sherren Clark ( for more information about this work party or to subscribe to monthly email updates about future volunteer opportunities in the Baraboo Hills.

The upcoming work party will meet on December 4 at Baxter's Hollow. We meet at 9:00 and work until 12:30 or 1:00, then usually eat lunch/snacks together before heading home.

If weekdays are better volunteer days for you, contact Steve Jandl ( to join his email list for weekday work parties in the Baraboo Hills.

For the December opportunity, we will be controlling buckthorn and other woody invasives at the north end of the large Baxter’s Hollow preserve. The work includes cutting buckthorn, honeysuckle, and other invasives with loppers and brushcutters and treating the cut stems with herbicide. Meet at the intersection of Forest Drive and Happy Hill Road at 9:00 and we’ll head out from there.
