DOROT is a nonprofit organization based in New York City. Our goal and mission is to alleviate the social isolation felt by older adults by bringing the generations together. DOROT offers a 10-week Summer College Internship for undergraduate students entering their sophomore, junior and senior years of study. Prospective applicants for this internship should have an interest in nonprofit management, marketing, community organizing, social work, working with older adults or some combination thereof. A total of 10 interns will be selected for this highly competitive internship opportunity.

Each intern is given substantive work and project management experience. In addition to the work assigned by each intern’s individual department, all interns will assist with surveying older adults about DOROT’s programs to ensure that the needs of our constituents are being met. Survey calls to DOROT seniors could account for as much as nine hours per week. Each intern will also be matched with an older adult for a weekly friendly phone call or visit for the duration of the internship.

At the time of this posting, DOROT is operating under the assumption that roughly half of the internship opportunities will work completely remotely and the other half will work on a hybrid model, part-time in the office, part-time remotely.

Throughout the summer, interns will engage with one another by participating in a two-day comprehensive orientation, attending weekly professional development meetings and more. All interns working in the office must show proof of COVID vaccination.

Program Details

DOROT’s Summer College Internship will begin with orientation on Wed. and Thurs., June 1 and 2. This orientation is mandatory and will run 9am-5pm on both days. The internship will conclude on Thurs., Aug. 11. Interns will work Mon. - Thurs. - 9am/9:30am - 5pm/5:30pm. The DOROT offices will be closed on Mon., June 6 and Mon., July 4. At the successful conclusion of the summer, each intern will receive a stipend in the amount of $2,800.
