Young people face many challenges, but they have an amazing capacity to overcome struggles and obstacles and contribute when they have safe places to belong, supportive relationships with peers and caring adults, opportunities to learn and try new things, and given hope for their future.

After-School Central (ASC) is a program of award-winning, faith-based nonprofit, The Center for Whitley County Youth ( and is hosted in 3 locations: Columbia City, South Whitley, and Churubusco.

You can play a role in helping shape the health and future of the next generation!

Various Roles* of an ASC Volunteer**:

  • Fun & Games
  • Informal mentoring
  • Tutoring & Homework Help
  • Teach your hobbies/interests/trades to students
  • Prepare meals for students
  • Build relationships, encourage, support

Columbia City Site: Tues/Thurs 3:45-6pm
South Whitley Site: Mon-Thurs 3-5:45pm
Churubusco Site: Tues/Thurs 3-5:45pm

*Listed volunteer roles are voluntary and dependent on volunteer interests and capacity

**All volunteers must complete a thorough background screening prior to involvement, but we do encourage scheduled & supervised visit just to observe and see if ASC is a good fit

***ASC serves local 6-8th grade youth, and we do have opportunities for high character high school students to get involved
