SAF: Service to the Armed Forces - Hero Care Regional Family Contact Volunteer When a newly enlisted service member joins the military, they must complete their paperwork and processing at their local military entrance processing station (MEPS). At this station where they will be sworn into service, they fill out a Red Cross Family Contact Card that contains information on how to contact a family member so that a Family Contact Volunteer can reach out to them with a welcome call. This welcome call will provide the new military family with information on how to access Red Cross services, including how to start an emergency communication message case, so they are better prepared for their service member’s upcoming deployments
