The Kellogg Environmental Center is looking for volunteers to monitor and maintain bluebird nest boxes. Volunteers walk the bluebird trail twice a week--or every 3-4 days--and collect data from eleven bluebird nest boxes. Volunteers will identify bird species living in the nest boxes, remove house sparrow nests, maintain nest boxes, and collect data such as nesting dates, number of eggs laid, how many eggs hatch, and how many nestlings fledge. Volunteers will receive training on an as needed basis. This volunteer project starts in mid-February and ends in late summer. Anyone interested in, and wanting to learn about, birding, ecology, biology, environmental sciences, and wildlife watching can apply. This is a great opportunity for middle and high school students looking for volunteer/community service credits.
