Fight Poverty as an Organizing & Advocacy Fellow (North Carolina)
ORGANIZATION: RESULTS
Please visit the new page to apply.
COVID-19 has further exposed the inequalities that we face across the world. From racial inequality, health disparities in low-income countries, and the wealth gap between rich and poor, we are facing a future that will require bold action. The fight to end poverty requires political will. With housing and the cost of essentials rising, communities must share their experiences with members of Congress.
The RESULTS Organizing and Advocacy Fellowship is a brilliant opportunity to learn how to advocate for solutions to these issues, communicate with the media, build relationships with your members of Congress, and organize your community to talk about their needs. Through the fellowship, young leaders will broaden their advocacy experience, confidence, and knowledge.
RESULTS Fellows are a cohort of advocates that work hard to change the world. In the RESULTS Fellowship, you will uplift important issues around affordable housing, inequality in global vaccine distribution and manufacturing, lack of global health education, and inequalities in nutrition around the world. They will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC to meet with their Representatives and Senators and their staff to tell them what they see and need in their communities.
We are looking for young leaders who:
- Have a passion for creating change and commitment to anti-oppression
- Ability to commit 3-6 hours per week for the 11-month program and join bimonthly webinars, local group meetings, and the monthly RESULTS National Webinar
- Must be between the ages 20-35 (other ages will be considered on a case-by-case basis) at the start of the fellowship
- Plans to live in the United States from December 2021 to November 2022
- Experience community activism, school activism, political campaigns, or other anti-poverty or social justice focused activities preferred but not required.
You can find more information in our RESULTS Fellowship Application Guide. If you would like to learn more and apply, please visit: www.results.org/fellowship
Applications will be accepted through the end of December 2021.
Who is RESULTS?
RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together we use our voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty.
RESULTS supports advocates in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. We live in rural communities and urban population centers. We are 20-year-old college students and 80-year-old community members. We are people who have experienced poverty and economic privilege. Most importantly, we are connected by our shared values that all people should have access to basic rights and have their basic needs met.
We take action individually and as part of RESULTS chapters, calling attention to the problems in our communities, and pushing for solutions that will make a difference. Collectively, we bring our voices together to build power for lasting change.
What do RESULTS Advocates do?
RESULTS advocates build long-term relationship with members of Congress. Through these relationships, we can influence them to pass legislations and leverage billions of dollars to address the oppressive forces that create poverty and inequality.
As a RESULTS Fellow, you will:
- Develop relationships with your members of Congress so that when you get in touch, they listen
- Meet face-to-face with your members of Congress and their staff
- Write persuasive opinion pieces and get published in the media
- Be part of a movement of people committed to ending the systemic and structural injustices that drive poverty
Does Advocacy really matter?
By raising our voices together, RESULTS advocates have and will continue to push Congress to make progress on both US and global poverty and inequality issues like:
- Making sure everyone, everywhere has access to lifesaving vaccines
- Securing safe, affordable housing for everyone in the United States
- Closing the racial wealth divide
- Ending childhood malnutrition
- Ensuring all kids have opportunity to get a quality education
- Tackling some of the world’s biggest killers, like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis

"I saw RESULTS on VolunteerMatch, but I wasn’t sure what advocacy was. Before that, I wasn’t really aware of the way different government policies impacted me. But RESULTS gave me a whole new perspective. I learned that if you want change, first you need to see what members of Congress are doing and build connections." -Yaseer Khanani
