Interfaith's Haven House Year-round Shelter is a 24/7 facility that provides basic necessities such as a warm bed, nutrituous meals, and access to shower facilities, along with comprehensive case management and support to approximately 40 men and women needing shelter.

Volunteers assist in the evenings by helping Interfaith staff manage the laundry and shower activities, as well as supporting the dinner service. Dinner for Haven House residents is usually provided by a team of volunteers who donate the food and their time to serve the meal.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Showers:

Monitor the area when showers and laundry machines are in use

Troubleshoot situations if shelter residents have issues with the laundry or shower operations

Dinner:

Monitor the kitchen area once dinner begins at 6:15 pm

Greet the volunteer team providing dinner and show them around the kitchen if needed

Work with Resident Coordinators and Security staff to ensure the area is maintained and safe for residents and volunteers

When dinner is finished, monitor the kitchen area to make sure all cleaning has been completed and everyone has left the kitchen

General:

Provide guidance and support to help clients acclimate to processes in their new living environment.

Ensure residents do not visit other Interfaith areas.

Utilize walkie-talkie to communicate with Resident Coordinators about shower availability or any unanticipated situation.

Report back to shelter Resident Coordinators upon completion of the shift.

Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes

Time Commitment:

This is an ongoing (6+ months), weekly commitment or internship opportunity

One shift per week or multiple shifts per week

Weekdays and Weekends: 5:00pm to 8:00/9:00pm

Qualifications:

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Must clear a criminal background check.

Established experience in customer care/client relations required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including vocabulary, grammar and spelling in English.

Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to easily work with a diverse population.

Demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and empathy when working with clients and volunteers.

Ability to establish quick rapport with clients.

Absolute solid values: honest, loyal, hardworking, and sincere.

Accomplish assignments successfully through your professionalism, leadership skills, wisdom, initiative, good judgment, and strong attention to detail.

Training and Support:

Volunteer Services provide a general orientation on the services and programs that Interfaith Community Services provides.

Ongoing oversight from supervising staff to provide direction, training and feedback on specific program and department activities, procedures, priorities, performance, and agency updates.

Office equipment including telephone system, photocopy machine, computer equipment, etc.

HIPAA guidelines.

Mandated Reporter training.
