Rock the Cemetery
A Music and Film Experience

Rock the Cemetery is an afternoon of music ending with an evening of films.Located in the Historic Elmwood Pinewood Cemetery in Charlotte's Uptown Fourth Ward Neighborhood.

Why Elmwood Pinewood?

This historic cemeteryencompasses over 70 acres of public space, the burial sites of Elmwood and Pinewood Cemeteries serve as a stirring reminder of Charlotte’s history. While serving as a place to honor the past, the properties’ monuments and park-like atmosphere creates a unique venue for community events and activities under the backdrop of the Queen City’s skyline.

Not only did we chose this location for its rich history, these two adjacent cemeteries offer a very cool outdoor space. The site for the films is right beside Randolph Scott's grave site, the famed 1950's movie star of westerns and war movies.

Mission Statement

Joedance Film Festival raises funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research at Atrium Health Levine Children’s through the annual film festival featuring short films produced in the United States and US Territories. We support research and clinical trials for pediatric sarcomas, blastoma, and brain tumors.

Description

Joe Restaino loved his family, his friends, cinema and life. He lived for four years and eight days after being diagnosed with a rare pediatric cancer at the age of 16. He left a legacy: a to-do list asking his family to aid in research so that other young people would someday benefit from better treatments of pediatric cancers.

Joedance Film Festival was founded after Joe’s death in 2010 and has funded research for better pediatric cancer treatments at Levine Children's. Joe’s list is being checked off item by item, dollar by dollar, and success by success
