Memory Bears

Memory Bears are made in remembrance of a loved one; created out of the clothing of the person who has passed. In making a memory bear, old clothes are transformed into a huggable and comforting bear. These bears are then returned to the family with the intention of providing comfort, connection, and solace to those in grief. Memory Bears are treasured by bereaved spouses, children, grandchildren, and friends.

Are you crafty with a sewing machine? Do you have experience making teddy bears, or willing to learn and donate your time and craft to bereaved families in the community? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out with interest or any questions you may have. Thank you!

Why Volunteer for Care Partners

Do you have a heart for people? Do you want to make a big difference in someone’s day? As a volunteer for Care Partners you can make a profound difference in a family’s life as a compassionate and calm presence who understands what they are going through. Our volunteers share our calling to bring comfort and help to others when they need it the most.

Without the help of people like you we could not provide the level of service families in our community deserve. Our specially trained volunteers are crucial in the daily operation and success of our program both in the office and supporting patients wherever they call home. Volunteers may keep a patient company for an afternoon, take them on an outing, help with projects around the house, give caregivers a break allowing them to run errands or get some rest or provide a specialized skill like giving a haircut or playing music. Whether you elect to visit patients, share a specific talent or assist office staff you will be playing a vital role in our organization.

About Us

At Care Partners we recognize that dying is not just a medical event but a personal one. As a not-for-profit, community-based hospice our goal since we were founded in 1982 has been to provide uniquely personal and exceptionally compassionate care and support to patients and their families. We serve Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas counties as well as parts of Yamhill and Columbia counties. We have opportunities for placement with patients throughout the Portland metropolitan region. Our main offices are located in Hillsboro, OR.

Volunteer Orientation

Volunteer Orientation is offered three times per year. Our training process ensures that volunteers are knowledgeable and confident as they enter their volunteer service.

To register for orientation or ask questions about our volunteer program please contact Hannah Bruckbauer, Volunteer Coordinator 503.648.9565 or email hannah.bruckbauer@carepartnersor.org.

Description

What families say about Care Partners (formerly Hospice of Washington County): "You dear folks are as close to angels on earth as we will see. Thank you so much for the care, concern and comfort you gave "Mary" and us. I don’t know what we would have done without you." "I believe the people at Hospice improved the quality of my father’s life 10 thousand fold were he or we to have tried to do it on our own. From the Shower Aide to the Volunteers, to the Nurses to the Social Workers every single person made my father feel like a priority, never an inconvenience and put purpose and meaning into every moment he had left." "Most amazing was the process from the point of initializing hospice care to the moment when she passed. Being the primary caretaker, I had all the resources I needed both physically and emotionally." "I just wish we had called hospice sooner." The hospice philosophy of care recognizes that dying is not just a medical event but a personal one as well. Whether you elect to serve on the Board, visit patients, share a specific talent, or assist office staff, we value your gifts of time and talent.

As a Volunteer for Care Partners you can make a profound difference in a family’s life as a compassionate and calm presence who understands what they’re going through. Our volunteers share our calling to bring comfort and help to others when they need it the most.
