ORGANIZATION: CARE ASSOCIATION

yellow house still

Care Association is 100% volunteers and is making progress toward building truly affordable homes; that is, homes with a cost that a person earning minimum wage can afford.

The cost to hire contractors and build a small 400 square foot housing unit on a private residential lot in the Bay Area begins at $150,000, not including the cost of the lot. For a household that can reasonably afford $780 a month, this cost is too high.

We are developing a workshop program to teach people building skills and enable the construction of pre-fabricated modules to reduce the cost of labor onsite.

In order to achieve our goal to reduce the cost to build an accessory dwelling unit to house a low-income household in Marin County, we are looking for:

  • Building skills instructors
Instructors will teach one or more 90-minute class. Class topics may include:
  • Basic tools safety and training
  • Power tools safety and instruction
  • How to read architectural plans
  • Building a project from start to finish

Classes may take place during the week and on weekends.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you!

About CARE ASSOCIATION

Location:

1951 Page Street, San Francisco, CA 94117, US

Mission Statement

Care Association plans, develops, and implements innovative strategies to alleviate economic burdens on lower- and middle-income households. We serve households in the United States that pay more than 30% of their gross income on housing or are transient because of lack of affordable housing. With the Care For Us web platform, we aim first to establish connections between households that are unable to compete in inflated real estate markets and homeowners who prefer to offer housing on their own terms. Secondly, we aim to connect and offer goods and services to those in need. Thirdly, we curate information and provide links to resources to inspire and enrich users’ experience.

Description

Care Association is focused on alleviating the economic burdens of low- and middle-income households by creating truly affordable housing. We are currently in the development process of an accessory dwelling unit that will be deeded affordable in Marin County, and provide a prototype for housing that has a low materials cost.
