If you are looking for an opportunity to provide some pet companionship and make a difference in people's lives, consider volunteering with Hospice.
Most of us know the positive feelings that we have experienced from pets, whether it be a dog, cat or other animal. Pet therapy has proven to have abundant benefits from companionship to bringing back positive memories of their own pets to just bringing a smile to someone's face upon feeling a fluffy, loveable animal.
"Because a primary goal of hospice services is comfort care, animal assisted therapy is an ideal option for providing comfort to patients who often feel isolated in the hospice setting. "A patient at the end of life can receive comfort from the touch of petting an animal. A patient with dementia can feel positive validation through this touch. Patients who have had animals or love animals find the visits a chance to reconnect to their positive past experiences," explains Minaxi Patel, with CarePals Pet Therapy Program at Optimal Hospice Care. Mission Statement
Rivercross Hospice is dedicated to providing and promoting the best quality of care for patients and families facing end-of-life issues.
Description
What is Hospice?
Hospice manages pain, controls symptoms, and understands that emotional and spiritual stresses are as significant as physical pain.
The Hospice Team supports and comforts terminally ill patients and their loved ones. Hospice is not about death, but rather about the quality of life as it nears its end. It is not a place to send people to die and it is not about last-minute hospital care.
Rivercross Hospice treats the whole person, not just the disease, providing care for the mind, body and spirit. The Hospice Benefit is not just for the patient. We also provide care and support for the family and loved ones during their time of need.
Hospice offers dignified living at the end of life.
