ORGANIZATION: Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital

Hey Volunteers!

The Girl Scouts are all about challenging themselves, writing their own stories, and taking actions! The Girl Scouts Nation's Capital is looking for people who want to contribute to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through designing or creating an event that focuses on 1 of the 4 key areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, and math (STEM), Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, or Outdoors. Most events are virtual and go for about an hour long. Girl Scouts who attend have opportunity to achieve a badge relating to the topic of the event. If you have any expertise and are passionate about teaching anything in any one of the 4 key areas, we would love to hear from you!!

Mission Statement

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. We seek to accomplish this by providing girls opportunities to develop their potential and have fun with their peers in a supportive, all-girl setting.

Description

Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent organization for girls with a current membership of 3.6 million girls and adults. Volunteers use their expertise, skills, interests, and life experience to shape fun and enriching leadership experiences for girls, and inspire them to reach their personal best. Volunteers help council staff facilitate the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls through exciting program opportunities: leadership/self-esteem, financial literacy, travel, health/wellness, science, technology, engineering, and math. Volunteers choose from several flexible Pathways (the ways that girls and adults join Girl Scouting) that fit their lifestyles, including short-term or long-term service working either directly or indirectly with girls, and they can participate regionally, nationally, and internationally.
