Purple Tree Cafe


Purple Tree Cafe is a small but growing nonprofit organization that employs people with disabilities and promotes the integration of people with disabilities into the broader community. We sell coffee and vegan teats at public markets and community events in the Davis area; we also occasionally wholesale to other businesses and offer a treat delivery service. We also sponsor inclusive online music events. to promote the other of our purposes. We have won grants and media attention. We are in negotiations to collaborate with a an independent coffee shop in Davis.

Purple Tree Cafe is seeking another member for our board of directors. Join our team of community-building, energetic people who are passionate about creating employment and community participation for people with disabilities. Board members and senior staff have included a corporate accountant, an attorney for the state, a retired nurse, an econmics grad student, a retired university administrator, a disability rights attorney, a food shop owner, and a marketing executive. We honor and seek diversity in gender, race, sexual orientation, and disability.

Board members are elected for two-year terms and are expected to attend monthly board meetings (online for now). They should also be able to invest 8-10 hours per month of volunteer time in planning and support activities. We seek people with a willingness to tackle a variety of tasks and a positive attitude. Having some experience in fundraising is essential; experience in nonprofit management would also be valuable.

There are seven seats on the Board; currently two are vacant. We are also seeking a Treasurer. The staff includes an Executive Director, an Assistant Executive Director,and about 12 employees. All are part-time. Our website is and we have a Facebook page.

We especially seek a board member with the experience to coordinate and expand our various efforts to raise funds through individual donations. So far these have included a benefit concert, a monthly donation program, a GoFundMe campaign, a Giving Tuesday campaign, and many individual contacts.
