Companion volunteers have a tremendous range of activities they can share with our patients!
Are you interested in making a patient feel beautiful? Maybe making a little hair-do and / or painting their nails?
Going for a walk around the facility or even outside on a nice day is a welcome change to their usual room.
Maybe you enjoy music, or you even play an instrument?
If you enjoy making sketches or painting, you could share this talent with a patient.
If you like to read, you could meander your way through a novel, or read short stories with them.
Prayer is something that a lot of patients enjoy, or watching their favorite show or movies on TV.
Perhaps you are a Reiki Practitioner. You could help our patients find inner peace, bringing them great comfort!
Are you a veteran who would like to connect with patients who are veterans themselves? Veterans share something special, and there don't even have to be words spoken, just knowing the person sitting next to you, "Gets it..." And that is enough.
Even just sitting quietly holding their hand, so they feel that they are not alone.
Photo albums, shadow boxes and scrap books are a wonderful form of life review, and there are so many more ideas you will think up as you become acquainted with patients you are assigned to.
Basically, you will be their friend.

Description
Faith & Family Hospice is located in Marlborough, Massachusetts. We serve patients, their families and friends in the Bristol, Middlesex, Norfolk and Worcester Counties. We are an interdisciplinary team which provides comfort and care to individuals with a prognosis of six months or less to live. We utilize the gifts of each team member to enhance the quality of life of each individual we serve, as well as those in their circle of friends and family. As a part of our team, Volunteers also bring their gifts and talents to our group of caregivers in so many ways. Do you enjoy reading? Are you artistic? Do you have a certified pet with which pet therapy could be provided? Maybe you are a whiz at computer technology, or you know how to plan an event which can bring a final wish to someone who would enjoy life review. There are so many possibilities and the opportunities are limitless. As an added bonus, you will reap the benefits of all the loving kindness you provide while representing your team.
