Special Needs Call Down - Emergency Management
ORGANIZATION: Volunteer Polk
Please visit the new page to apply.
Polk County Emergency Management's Special Needs program is looking for volunteers to help contact the registrants on their list to confirm sheltering and transportation needs. In Polk County, there are over 3,000 residents who fit this description and are registered to be transported to appropriate shelters that will be able to accommodate their special needs, in the event of a disaster. A mission of this size requires a lot of advance coordination, when there is not even a storm in sight, so the information maintained is current and accurate should it be needed at a later time.
Volunteers will call residents on a provided list to verify their physical mailing address, medically necessary accommodations, emergency contact numbers, and other info previously provided. Any changes will need to be noted and given to the Special Needs Coordinator.
Polk County Emergency Management is responsible for planning and coordinating actions to prepare, respond, and recover from natural or man-made disasters in Polk County. It manages the County Emergency Operations Center, which is the central coordination facility for all disasters. It also plans and conducts emergency training and serves as a liaison with state and federal emergency agencies. Emergency Management also partners to produce the Polk County's annual Hurricane Shelter Map, Hurricane Shopping List, and educational events to help citizens prepare themselves for a potential disaster.
