Mission

Working for Parents, Inc. is an intermediary, start-up, 501c3 non-profit organization concentrating on societal and structural issues affecting parents. One of the most prominent issues being parenting and the workplace. Working for Parents, Inc. functions to eradicate this situation by referring educational and supportive services to parents, partnering with businesses, and working with policymakers. Fairness and Flexibility for Parents are key!

Position

Working for Parents Volunteer Manager is to ensure an organization has enough volunteers to fulfill its service mission. The Volunteer Manager must perform a variety of duties involving recruitment, training, and program planning. The following responsibilities are as follows:

Recruit Volunteers

The Volunteer Manager may place advertisements in the newspaper, post volunteer opportunities online or attend job fairs with the hope of meeting new volunteers. Volunteer Managers also interview potential volunteers to determine if they are a good fit for the organization.


Train Volunteers

The Volunteer Manager’s responsibility is to provide comprehensive training. Volunteer Managers often conduct orientation sessions, give new volunteers tours of the building, and help new volunteers get settled into their roles. In some cases, the Volunteer Manager also teaches volunteers new skills.


Create Program Reports

The Volunteer Managers will collect data from volunteers and paid staff members, use the data to create reports, and distribute those reports to key personnel in the organization.


Schedule Volunteers

The Volunteer Manager will work closely with volunteers to come up with a schedule that works for everyone. If the organization has a special event planned, the Volunteer Manager is also responsible for ensuring the right number of volunteers is available to handle the extra work.

Determine the Need for Volunteers

The Volunteer Manager must be able to anticipate these changes and plan accordingly.

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Working for Parents, Inc.’s mission. The selected Volunteer Manager will have networks within the business, community, government, philanthropy, social services, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing volunteers and staff.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Extensive professional experience with significant or close network/relationship within the business, community, government, philanthropy, social services, or the nonprofit sector.
  • A commitment to and understanding of Working for Parents, Inc.’s beneficiaries, preferably based on experience
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of Working for Parents, Inc.’s beneficiaries
This is solely a volunteer opportunity. As the organization grows there will be an opportunity for the Volunteer Manager to receive compensation.
