Compassionate listeners provide an empathetic space in which those speaking can become vulnerable and share what they need to. During this COVID-19 pandemic there have been an increasing number of people reaching out and we want to find people with a passion for listening.

About Someone To Tell It To

Location:

922 N. 3rd St., Harrisburg, PA 17102, US

Mission Statement

Someone To Tell It To cultivates meaningful relationships through compassionate listening and trains others to do the same.

Description

Someone To Tell It To has completed 10 years of service to those who need a safe way to share their pain and loneliness. "Someone" is described as any person who has a story to share and who needs to be heard. STTIT does not discriminate against any person for any reason. STTIT has provided compassionate listening in more than 15,000 interactions - in person and electronically with people who have reached out to share their burdens. Using social media and technology, we have interacted with people across the United States and in 10 countries around the world.
The goal of STTIT is to strengthen relationships, to provide a mutual connection during a time of pain and suffering for anyone. We do not turn people away based on nationality, language, or ability to pay. There is a loneliness epidemic, and we seek to diminish it, one person at a time. Our secondary goal is to train groups of people and individuals to be better listeners, to care for one another in a unique but simple way that leads to life-changing relationships.
In 2020, the staff provided 1,230 compassionate listening interactions. In addition, the organization has provided over a dozen other trainings on different aspects of listening. Finally, there are many ways to measure STTIT’s success qualitatively through quotes and stories of lives changed and faith restored.
