ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  • Greeter: Volunteer will welcome clients, explain the tax preparation process, & provide intake documents, organize intake forms, & make follow-up calls/texts to clients for drive-thru to return for pick-up.
  • Scanner: Volunteer will take drop-off/drive-thru tax documents, scan & upload them for virtual Tax Preparers to prepare returns.
  • Tax Preparer: Volunteer will prepare & review the Federal & State returns with clients.
  • Site Coordinator: Volunteer will ensure shift runs smoothly & all returns are submitted. They will match clients to volunteers & answer any questions volunteers may have. They will work on rejected returns in their down time & ensure that the drop-off returns are completed.
  • Lead Volunteer: Volunteer will be a returning volunteer that will be designated to quality reviewing, working on drop off returns, & aiding new volunteers. They will track all drop off returns done on shift.
Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment: Ability to take pictures using a tablet, customer service, willingness to train before starting.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? Clients are getting their taxes prepared for free. According to the IRS, the average cost to have a tax return prepared is $210.

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
