Mission Statement
Friends of Redwood supports Redwood High in developing students’ academic foundations, preparing them for postsecondary options, and empowering them to contribute positively to society.
Description
Friends of Redwood is the 501(c)3 education foundation for the students and graduates of the Sequoia Union High School District’s Redwood High School in Redwood City CA. In our geographical area most schools enjoy substantial financial support from parents as well as the community. Redwood’s population includes a large percentage of students with significant needs:
-92% are economically disadvantaged & qualify for free/reduced lunch programs.
-Over 50% will be the first generation in their family to graduate from high school.
-More than a quarter of Redwood students work after school to help support and/or provide child care for their families.
-4% are homeless.
Redwood does not have a PTA, mostly due to parent work schedules and the transitory nature of the student population. Even before the current crisis, many parents worked multiple lower income jobs to support the family.
