The Area Agency on Aging (aka Advantage Aging Solutions) is looking for a couple of individuals to bring his or her customer service and basic office management skills to provide Volunteer Administrative Support to its growing SHINE Program. SHINE stands for Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders. SHINE offers seniors, those with disabilities, and their caregivers free counseling services and assistance with understanding Medicare so they can make the most informed decisions about their health insurance needs.
Currently, as a staff of one, the SHINE Liaison is eager to focus on outreach and recruiting from across a 14-county area, as well as growing the SHINE staff, and leave the more administrative affairs of the Program in experienced and capable hands.
Working on behalf of the SHINE Liaison, the Administrative Support volunteers will perform many typical office tasks in helping with the day-to-day management of the SHINE Program, using many of the typical office tools--computer, fax, copy machine, etc. The volunteers will communicate with volunteer counselors; help with the arrangement of outreach presentations; field phone calls and answer questions; help complete monthly programmatic reports as well as file maintenance, and data entry of outreach activities.
The candidate will need to complete the same free SHINE training about Medicare required of all paid and volunteer staff. Once completed, and with mentoring to follow, a minimum commitment of just sixteen hours per month (or just four hours per week) is requested, and for a period of two years.
Understanding Medicare can be overwhelming for many of our older fellow citizens. As a SHINE volunteer, you can play a big part in ensuring our seniors understand and sign up for the Medicare coverage that matches their needs.
