Teach kids to love nature.Volunteer at WildCare!

WildCare’s Terwilliger Nature Guides lead guided discovery walks for elementary school children in beautiful natural areas with the goal of educating children about nature and how to live well with wildlife!

Duties include:

  • Leading nature hikes for small groups of 5 to 8 elementary school students at accessible trails at Ring Mountain, Miwok Meadows, Roy's Redwoods, and/or Muir Woods.
  • Helping children build respect for nature and the natural world.
  • Encouraging children's interest in nature and the environment.
  • Occasionally serving as day leader and communicate with classroom teacher before the hike regarding day of hike logistics.
  • Educating children about WildCare’s mission.


Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • 18 years or older.
  • Complete the application at the URL below and attend all required training sessions.
  • Ability to commit to lead nature hikes three times per month on weekday mornings for one year while schools are in session (September - June). All hikes take place on weekday mornings during the school year and will be scheduled in advance.
  • Amenable to regular email communication.
  • Ability to stand and walk for 3 hours.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
