EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Friday Night Supper Program is a soup kitchen in Boston that serves the needy every Friday night. The organization open the doors to guests at 5 p.m., providing hot coffee, juice, water, and soup. Twice a month, the program also offers a clothing distribution. At 6 p.m., the main course and dessert are served, and doors close at 7 p.m.

WHAT WE'LL BE DOING:

We will be helping with dinner service for 150 adults and assisting with after-dinner cleanup. Tasks include: drying dishes, serving food, carrying trays weighing upwards of 15 pounds, sorting through clothing, serving beverages, washing dishes, taking down tables and chairs, and sweeping and mopping.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

The evening volunteer shift lasts from approximately 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please be sure to arrive no later than 5 p.m. and dress appropriately (comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes, with long hair tied back.)

NOTE: Unfortunately this event is not wheelchair accessible. We do our best to ensure as many events as possible are accessible. The nonprofit can accommodate volunteers who can do light lifting, counting, and sorting. If you have specific questions in this area, please contact the event manager.

WHERE TO MEET:

All volunteers should meet with the Event Manager at the Arlington Street Church (351 Boylston Street, Boston) by 5 p.m. The nearest T stop is the Arlington station on the Green Line. Please note that there is no onsite parking.

FNSP is committed to: - Serving as much fresh food as possible with an emphasis on nutritional value - Providing basic needs such as clothing and toiletries for our guests - Offering a sense of security, abundance and choice to those who have limited or no access to these very basic essentials

Mission Statement

One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

Description

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to support other local non-profits by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event -- which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours -- we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or caf where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.

Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time.
